Rescue Winch Test Stand . . .
This project clearly demonstrates FEA Engineering's team of engineers skills, imagination and ability with respect to their use of the latest 3D modeling and numerical simulation software during the prototyping & designing processes.
This test stand is unique in the aerospace industry because its structure lends itself to mobility. In other words, the stand can be transported from one place to another. It was conceived, designed and built as a modular structure with the ability to simulate at ground level, the working environment of a helicopter rescue hoist/winch.
This system can control and diagnose both hydraulic and electric hoists/winches, and it has the ability to run a complete Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) automatically in only a few minutes.
The whole assembly was 3D modeled in Solid Works and optimized using Algor software. Some shop load tests were performed to validate the numerical simulation results.

The project was completed in three months. FEA Engineering / Valmont West Coast Engineering were responsible for the mechanical design, fabrication and finish powder coating.
Aeromation Design & Repair was responsible for the electrical design and controls.
